An Axhead Floats
1. And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.
1. Les fils des prophètes dirent à Élisée: Voici, le lieu où nous sommes assis devant toi est trop étroit pour nous.
1. Ary hoy ireo zanaky ny mpaminany tamin' i Elisa: Indro, ankehitriny tsy omby anay ny toerana izay itoeranay eto aminao.
2. Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.
2. "Allons jusqu`au Jourdain; nous prendrons là chacun une poutre, et nous nous y ferons un lieu d`habitation. Élisée répondit: Allez."
2. Masìna ianao, aoka hankany Jordana izahay, ka samy haka hazo iray avy any, dia hanao trano ho anay any mba hitoeranay. Ary hoy izy: Mandehana àry ianareo.
3. And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.
3. Et l`un d`eux dit: Consens à venir avec tes serviteurs. Il répondit: J`irai.
3. Ary hoy ny anankiray: Masìna ianao, aoka mba hiaraka amin' ny mpanomponao ianao, raha sitrakao. Ary namaly izy hoe: Handeha aho.
4. So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.
4. Il partit donc avec eux. Arrivés au Jourdain, ils coupèrent du bois.
4. Ka dia niaraka taminy izy. Ary nony tonga tany Jordana ireo, dia nikapa hazo.
5. But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.
5. Et comme l`un d`eux abattait une poutre, le fer tomba dans l`eau. Il s`écria: Ah! mon seigneur, il était emprunté!
5. "Fa nony nikapa hazo ny anankiray, dia latsaka tany anaty rano ny lela-famaky; ka dia nitaraina izy ka niteny hoe: Indrisy, tompoko, nindramina iny."
6. And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.
6. L`homme de Dieu dit: Où est-il tombé? Et il lui montra la place. Alors Élisée coupa un morceau de bois, le jeta à la même place, et fit surnager le fer.
6. Ary hoy ny lehilahin' Andriamanitra: Taiza no nahalatsahany? Dia natorony azy ny toerana. Ary nanapaka hazo Elisa ka natsipiny teo, dia nitsinkafona ilay vy.
7. Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.
7. Puis il dit: Enlève-le! Et il avança la main, et le prit.
7. Ary hoy izy: indro, raisonao izy. Dia narosony ny tanany ka noraisiny.
Elisha Traps Blinded Arameans
8. Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.
8. Le roi de Syrie était en guerre avec Israël, et, dans un conseil qu`il tint avec ses serviteurs, il dit: Mon camp sera dans un tel lieu.
8. Ary ny mpanjakan' i Syria niady tamin' ny mpanjakan' ny Isiraely ka naka hevitra tamin' ny mpanompony nanao hoe: Any Ananona no hitobiako.
9. And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.
9. Mais l`homme de Dieu fit dire au roi d`Israël: Garde-toi de passer dans ce lieu, car les Syriens y descendent.
9. "Ary ilay lehilahin' Andriamanitra kosa naniraka tany amin' ny mpanjakan' ny Isiraely nanao hoe: Tandremo fandrao mankany Ananona ianao; fa any no hidinan' ny Syriana."
10. And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.
10. Et le roi d`Israël envoya des gens, pour s`y tenir en observation, vers le lieu que lui avait mentionné et signalé l`homme de Dieu. Cela arriva non pas une fois ni deux fois.
10. Ary ny mpanjakan' ny Isiraely naniraka tany amin' izay nolazain' ny lehilahin' Andriamanitra taminy sy nananarany azy, ka nampiambina tany tsy indray mandeha, na indroa aza.
11. Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?
11. "Le roi de Syrie en eut le coeur agité; il appela ses serviteurs, et leur dit: Ne voulez-vous pas me déclarer lequel de nous est pour le roi d`Israël?"
11. "Dia tezitra indrindra ny fon' ny mpanjakan' i Syria noho izany zavatra izany; koa niantso ny mpanompony izy ka nanao taminy hoe: Tsy hambaranareo ahy va izay eto amintsika momba ny mpanjakan' ny Isiraely?"
12. And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.
12. "L`un de ses serviteurs répondit: Personne! ô roi mon seigneur; mais Élisée, le prophète, qui est en Israël, rapporte au roi d`Israël les paroles que tu prononces dans ta chambre à coucher."
12. "Ary hoy ny mpanompony anankiray: Tsy misy, ry mpanjaka tompoko; fa Elisa mpaminany ao amin' ny Isiraely ihany no milaza amin' ny mpanjakan' ny Isiraely na dia izay teny lazainao ao amin' ny trano fandrianao aza."
13. And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.
13. Et le roi dit: Allez et voyez où il est, et je le ferai prendre. On vint lui dire: Voici, il est à Dothan.
13. Ary hoy ny mpanjaka: Andeha, izahao izay itoerany mba hanirahako hisambotra azy. Ary nolazaina taminy hoe: Indro, ao Dotana izy.
14. Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.
14. Il y envoya des chevaux, des chars et une forte troupe, qui arrivèrent de nuit et qui enveloppèrent la ville.
14. "Ary dia nampandeha soavaly sy kalesy ary miaramila be ho any izy; ka tonga alina ireo ary nanodidina ny tanàna."
15. And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
15. "Le serviteur de l`homme de Dieu se leva de bon matin et sortit; et voici, une troupe entourait la ville, avec des chevaux et des chars. Et le serviteur dit à l`homme de Dieu: Ah! mon seigneur, comment ferons-nous?"
15. Ary rehefa nifoha maraina koa ny mpanompon' ny lehilahin' Andriamanitra ka nivoaka, dia indreo, nisy miaramila sy soavaly ary kalesy nanodidina ny tanàna. Dia hoy ny mpanompony taminy: Indrisy tompoko! Ahoana no hataontsika?
16. And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
16. Il répondit: Ne crains point, car ceux qui sont avec nous sont en plus grand nombre que ceux qui sont avec eux.
16. "Ary namaly Elisa hoe: Aza matahotra; fa ny momba antsika dia be kokoa noho ny momba azy."
17. And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
17. Élisée pria, et dit: Éternel, ouvre ses yeux, pour qu`il voie. Et l`Éternel ouvrit les yeux du serviteur, qui vit la montagne pleine de chevaux et de chars de feu autour d`Élisée.
17. Ary nivavaka Elisa ka hoy izy: Jehovah ô, mifona aminao aho, ampahirato ny masony mba hahitany. Ary nampahiratra ny mason' ilay zatovo Jehovah dia nahita izy, ka, indro, ny tendrombohitra feno soavaly sy kalesy afo manodidina an' i Elisa.
18. And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
18. Les Syriens descendirent vers Élisée. Il adressa alors cette prière à l`Éternel: Daigne frapper d`aveuglement cette nation! Et l`Éternel les frappa d`aveuglement, selon la parole d`Élisée.
18. Ary rehefa nidina nankany aminy ireo, dia nivavaka tamin' i Jehovah Elisa nanao hoe: Mifona aminao aho, ataovy manjambena ny mason' ireto olona ireto. Ary dia nataony manjambena ireo araka ny tenin' i Elisa.
19. And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.
19. "Élisée leur dit: Ce n`est pas ici le chemin, et ce n`est pas ici la ville; suivez-moi, et je vous conduirai vers l`homme que vous cherchez. Et il les conduisit à Samarie."
19. "Ary hoy Elisa taminy: Tsy ity no lalana ary tsy ity no tanàna; fa manaraha ahy ianareo, dia hitondra anareo ho any amin' ny lehilahy tadiavinareo aho. Dia nentiny nankany Samaria ireo."
20. And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.
20. Lorsqu`ils furent entrés dans Samarie, Élisée dit: Éternel, ouvre les yeux de ces gens, pour qu`ils voient! Et l`Éternel ouvrit leurs yeux, et ils virent qu`ils étaient au milieu de Samarie.
20. "Ary izao no niseho, rehefa tonga tany Samaria izy ireo, dia hoy Elisa: Jehovah ô, ampahirato ny mason' ireto olona ireto mba hahitany. Ary nampahiratra ny masony Jehovah, dia nahita izy; ka indro, tao afovoan' i Samaria izy."
21. And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?
21. Le roi d`Israël, en les voyant, dit à Élisée: Frapperai-je, frapperai-je, mon père?
21. Ary nony nahita azy ireo ny mpanjakan' ny Isiraely, dia hoy izy tamin' i Elisa: Ry ikaky ô, hasiako va ireo? Hasiako va ireo?
22. And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.
22. "Tu ne frapperas point, répondit Élisée; est-ce que tu frappes ceux que tu fais prisonniers avec ton épée et avec ton arc? Donne-leur du pain et de l`eau, afin qu`ils mangent et boivent; et qu`ils s`en aillent ensuite vers leur maître."
22. "Fa namaly izy hoe: Aza asianao izy; moa asianao izay nobaboinao tamin' ny sabatrao sy ny tsipìkanao? Rosoy mofo sy rano eo anoloany mba hohaniny sy hosotroiny ary handehanany any amin' ny tompony."
23. And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.
23. "Le roi d`Israël leur fit servir un grand repas, et ils mangèrent et burent; puis il les renvoya, et ils s`en allèrent vers leur maître. Et les troupes des Syriens ne revinrent plus sur le territoire d`Israël."
23. "Dia nanao fanasana lehibe ho azy ny mpanjaka; ary rehefa nihinana sy nisotro ireo, dia nampandehaniny, ary dia nankany amin' ny tompony izy. Koa dia tsy nankany amin' ny tanin' ny Isiraely intsony ny mpitoha adin' i Syria."
Famine in Besieged Samaria
24. And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria.
24. Après cela, Ben Hadad, roi de Syrie, ayant rassemblé toute son armée, monta et assiégea Samarie.
24. Ary izao no niseho, rehefa afaka izany: fa namory ny miaramilany rehetra Beni-hadada, mpanjakan' i Syria, dia niakatra ka nanao fahirano an' i Samaria.
25. And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.
25. "Il y eut une grande famine dans Samarie; et ils la serrèrent tellement qu`une tête d`âne valait quatre-vingts sicles d`argent, et le quart d`un kab de fiente de pigeon cinq sicles d`argent."
25. "Dia nisy mosary mafy tany Samaria; fa, indro, nanao fahirano azy ireo mandra-pahatongan' ny loham-boriky ho lafo sekely valopolo sy ny taim-boromailala ampahefatry ny kaba ho sekely dimy."
26. And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.
26. Et comme le roi passait sur la muraille, une femme lui cria: Sauve-moi, ô roi, mon seigneur!
26. Ary raha nandalo teny ambonin' ny manda ny mpanjakan' ny Isiraely, dia nisy vehivavy nitaraina taminy nanao hoe: Vonjeo aho, ry mpanjaka tompoko ô!
27. And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?
27. Il répondit: Si l`Éternel ne te sauve pas, avec quoi te sauverais-je? avec le produit de l`aire ou du pressoir?
27. Ary hoy ny mpanjaka: Raha tsy vonjen' i Jehovah ianao, aiza no hamonjeko anao? Amin' ny famoloana va, sa amin' ny famiazam-boaloboka?
28. And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow.
28. Et le roi lui dit: Qu`as-tu? Elle répondit: Cette femme-là m`a dit: Donne ton fils! nous le mangerons aujourd`hui, et demain nous mangerons mon fils.
28. Ary hoy koa ny mpanjaka taminy: Inona àry ny manjo anao? Ary ravehivavy namaly hoe: Hoy ity vehivavy ity tamiko: Omeo ny zanakao hohanintsika anio, ary ny zanako kosa no hohanintsika rahampitso.
29. So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.
29. Nous avons fait cuire mon fils, et nous l`avons mangé. Et le jour suivant, je lui ai dit: Donne ton fils, et nous le mangerons. Mais elle a caché son fils.
29. "Ka dia nandrahoinay ny zanako ka nohaninay; ary nony ampitso, dia hoy aho taminy: Omeo kosa ny zanakao mba hohanintsika! kanjo nafeniny ny zanany."
30. And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.
30. "Lorsque le roi entendit les paroles de cette femme, il déchira ses vêtements, en passant sur la muraille; et le peuple vit qu`il avait en dedans un sac sur son corps."
30. "Ary izao no niseho, rehefa ren' ny mpanjaka ny tenin-dravehivavy, dia nandriatra ny fitafiany izy; ary nandalo teny ambonin' ny manda izy, ka hitan' ny olona, fa, indro, lamba fisaonana no nataony manolo-koditra."
31. Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.
31. Le roi dit: Que Dieu me punisse dans toute sa rigueur, si la tête d`Élisée, fils de Schaphath, reste aujourd`hui sur lui!
31. Dia hoy izy: Hataon' Andriamanitra amiko anie izany, eny, mihoatra noho izany aza, raha tsy hotapahina anio ny lohan' i Elisa, zanak' i Safata.
32. But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?
32. Or Élisée était dans sa maison, et les anciens étaient assis auprès de lui. Le roi envoya quelqu`un devant lui. Mais avant que le messager soit arrivé, Élisée dit aux anciens: Voyez-vous que ce fils d`assassin envoie quelqu`un pour m`ôter la tête? Écoutez! quand le messager viendra, fermez la porte, et repoussez-le avec la porte: le bruit des pas de son maître ne se fait-il pas entendre derrière lui?
32. "Fa nipetraka tao an-tranony Elisa, ary ny loholona dia nipetraka teo aminy; ary naniraka olona avy teo aminy ny mpanjaka, fa raha tsy mbola tonga tany amin' i Elisa ilay iraka, dia hoy izy tamin' ny loholona: Hitanareo va ny nanirahan' io zanaky ny mpamono olona io hanapaka ny lohako? Izahao, ka raha avy ny iraka dia arindrino ny varavarana, ary atoseho mafy hisakana azy; moa tsy ao aoriany va ny fingodongodon' ny tongotry ny tompony?"
33. And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?
33. "Il leur parlait encore, et déjà le messager était descendu vers lui, et disait: Voici, ce mal vient de l`Éternel; qu`ai-je à espérer encore de l`Éternel?"
33. "Ary raha mbola niresaka taminy izy; indro, nidina nankao aminy ny iraka ka nanao hoe: Indro, avy amin' i Jehovah izao loza izao; ka inona intsony no anantenako an' i Jehovah?"
